  • Flight or Fight

I can get along with most people, I can appreciate just about all things.

What bothers me most are birds that don’t fly even though they have wings.

They strut around scratching and pecking the soil, ignoring you as they eat.

They will turn and charge at you, their disposition changes in a heart beat.

The bane of my existence Ostriches, emus, kiwis and penguins too.

I can’t tolerate them. Do they ever bother you?

  • Intelligence or Luck

    The Elephant vs. The Duck

The zookeeper had a 7 ton African elephant and a 2-1/2 ton truck.

He must transport the behemoth to make room for a Mallard Duck.

His lack of viable options simply had him dumb struck.

Then commented a management consultant, who only charged him a buck.

“Don’t put your hope on Artificial Intelligence,

Just rely on plain old dumb luck.”

  • Did I Already Say This?

What do you think gets better with age?

Age is change caused by the lives we live.

Being fickle, she can take or may decide to give.

The good things she’ll change for the better.

Others will unwittingly become a debtor.

Taking  human actions, feelings and intentions as a gauge,

It seems that our capacity to forget improves with age.

  • Go Figure

    Go Figure

What pitfalls do you see as Common Sense becomes rare?

Seems we are experiencing a great shame,

Common Sense has returned whence it came.

Left unused and idle for far too long,

Perhaps the Information Revolution was its Swan Song.

Some think the advent of Artificial Intelligence,

Has robbed Common Sense of its relevance.

Common Sense, I hope we’ll see you later.

Your absence among us removes yet another Common Denominator.

  • Strength in Comfort

What strategies do you use to increase comfort in your daily life?

After I wake, I’m on my knees praying before the Lord.

May He guide me rightly thru this day, that I live in His accord.

When life is overwhelming, His consolation restores my strength.

He enables me to serve others, I can go to any length.

The comfort that I seek is not an easy, pain free life.

Rather it’s the confidence in knowing He’ll carry me through the strife.

When I arrive at day’s end, I’m on my knees before the Lord.

I thank Him for redeeming me, He paid a price I can’t afford.

  • Romancing the Clone

Never one to be characterized as charming and romantic.

Rather the words to describe me are severe and pedantic.

    But let me step out of character and put aside behaviors dour;

To a mere acquaintance I would say, “In the garden of friendship, you are the most beautiful flower.”

After recovering from this flattery, I can imagine that she’d say, “Oh my gosh man what’s gotten into you today?”

“Are you a shape shifting alien or a clever A.I. hack?

Whatever you have done with my old friend, please just send him back!”

Thus I shall place charm and romance back upon the shelf.

To spare the world this shock and awe, I will remain my plain, old self.

  • Yesterday Shaped Tomorrow

What are you most worried about for the future?

After some careful thought I must cautiously say,

I am mostly worried about things that are of yesterday.

The Scientific Revolution, many argue, improved the human condition.

Scientific method and observation replaced the Aristotelian Tradition.

The notion of  true freedom, civic duty and the common good,

were supplanted with, do it, just because we could.

The impact of technology advancement, measured in the short term,

Has shaped a calamitous journey from which we might not return.

The question “Does it benefit all of mankind or just a few?”

Is no longer raised, to seek a divergent or opposing view.

The future is here now, it arrives at the end of each day.

How long will it endure, No one can really say.

  • Home Body . . . Not

What countries do you want to visit?

Not one to travel much, I prefer to stay at home.

If I were to venture abroad, I might just go to Rome.

Perchance a side trip to see the Tower that leans in Pisa.

Then off Paris France to visit the Mona Lisa.

By then I’d be rejuvenated, full of vigor and vim.

Off to the north coast of France for an English Channel Swim.

Cannot forget the White Cliffs located nearby at Dover.

Then off to Dublin to meet the fabled Irish Rover.

My travelogue with photos maintained on my smartphone.

I’ll share it with you all, whenever I reach home.

  • Mother Nature is No Fool

Ah, yes I long for Spring,

Above the 45th Parallel it’s a psychological thing.

    The calendar says, “It’s here!”

Mother Nature says, “Not so my dear.”

    ”Today more snow I’ll bring!”

  • Das ist gut!

What’s the one luxury you can’t live without?

There is a simple luxury, that I cannot live without.

Should I be denied it, I’ll stomp my feet and pout.

It enlivens the tastebuds, a true epicurean delight.

I take at mealtime, morning, day and night.

It supports a healthy gut, and builds a diverse microbiome.

I consume it while traveling. I consume while at home.

What is this l delectable luxury that I rave about?

It is none other than Bavarian Sauerkraut.
